The hidden wealth in cocoa and how it's has changed the lives of kasawo peaople


After Ivory Cost one of the big producers of cocoa declared an off season to reset their cocoa plantations, cocoa prices spiked to almost 100% following the major spike in 2024, and now the price of cocoa is high on the global market. Kasawo is a small town located in wakiso district, Uganda, well known for cocoa growing, the plantation that has changed the lives of this small village, farmers call it their golden plant, once a small town has now developed into a big business centre because of the massive wealth gained in cocoa, over 70% of farmers in kasawo have cocoa plantations either on small or large scale


 


People  of kasawo embraced this opportunity with two hands and this is how the current price of cocoa has changed their lives socially and economically 

New employment opportunities have been created in kasawo region, jobs like working on cocoa grinding machines, lifters, and even working in cocoa farms hence benefiting the people of kasawo. 

Infrastructual development has also been witnessed of recent years in kasawo, new houses have been constructed, business shops and most of these buildings are owned by kasawo residents 

Water supply in kasawo is plenty with more than 100 boreholes constructed by town council from the taxes collected in cocoa farms,from Kasawo Town down in kasawo remote areas providing them with fresh water

Cocoa farmers lives have improved from low to middle income status being able to support their children to school and all essentials needed for domestic use. 

Youth emancipation, the youths in kasawo have managed to buy boda bodas from the money earned in cocoa hence easing their means of transport and using boda bodas to make a living 

Other businesses like bars and hotels have been put in place. Bars like new paradise, the valley and many more have been input up creating more jobs for the people of kasawo
